COLOR IN MAKEUP

To understand color, first you must know some basics. Of course there are many colors, tones and shades, but for knowing how to combine, it's good to know their origin.

We start with the circle colours:

First, there are independent primary colors, which are not obtained by combining other colors:

By combining them in equal proportions, two by two, we get the secondary colors:
Red + Yellow =Orange
Red + Blue =Violet
Yellow + Blue =Green
Thirdly, we have tertiary colors resulting from mixing a primary color with an adjacent secondary color, on circle colours:
Red + Orange = Orange red (reddish orange)
Red + Violet = Purple, Cyclamen (red-purple or reddish purple)
Yellow + Orange = Gold
Yellow + Green = Yellow-Green (yellowish green)
Blue + Green = Turquoise (greenish blue or bluish green)
Blue + Violet = Indigo, Ultramarine (bluish violet)

The contrast of color is formed by complementary colors. It is known that the spectrum of light is composed of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet (ROYGBIV). Each color of the spectrum is complementary to the other.

The strongest contrast is formed by a color and its opposite on the color circle:

Primary complementary colors:

Secondary complementary colors:

A color is highlighted if it is near its complementary color. Thus, we can infer and observe that, for example, a green eye makeup can successfully use a red lipstick. Or, if the eyes are blue, their color will be highlighted by an orange-colored lipstick.

Two complementary colors mixed together will result in a neutral color (gray). Therefore, camouflage imperfections will be using complementary colors. For example, a red stain on the skin will hide very well with a green color corrector (green is the complementary color of red), purple circles will be camouflaged by a corrector with yellow pigment, and so on.

The strongest contrast occurs between the primary colors.

We can speak of the contrast between white and black, although are not colors, these have a particular importance in the makeup. White highlights and black darkens and deepens. If you put together a color white, although increases it, white decreases the brightness of color. Instead, black will highlight the color.

However, if you mix white with any color, the color will cool and discolor. It will get a tint (red + white = pink). Mixed with black, the color will darken and will lose its brightness, obtaining a shadow (orange + black = rusty). By mixing white and black will result in neutral gray and if joined a color, it will not change the color intensity. It will get a tone (purple + gray = lilac). Gray is a cool color but adding yellow, red or brown, it will warm. Two colors that have a common pigment, such as green and blue, placed side by side will appear mixed. They are called harmonized colors.

It is also necessary to know that on the circle colors are cold colors and warm colors. What are they and what is their role?
Warm colors are those between yellow and red violet (purple or cyclamen-colored): yellow, orange yellow, orange, red, orange red, brick-red, chocolate, brown, red violet.
Cold colors are included on the circle between yellow-green and purple: yellow-green, green, turquoise, blue, navy, purple, lilac, fuchsia.
The warmest color is red-orange (reddish-orange) and the coldest is blue violet (indigo).
Joining a cold and a warm color will create a contrast that will give the optically effect of close-away or big-small. If you join two hot colors will cool them and joining two cool colors, both of them will seem warmer.

Neutral or earth colors are black, grays and browns. They are obtained by the following mixture:
• Three primary colors
• Two secondary colors
• All primary with all secondary colors.

When choosing colors for eye makeup should be aware of your skin tone, cold or hot. To find out what kind of skin you have, look at your veins of the your wrist, in natural light. If they have a purple -blue color then your skin is cold. If these veins are green, your skin is warm.
From color range suitable for your iris color choose warm colors for warm skin and cool colors for cool skin. You will notice that your eyes will be harmonious highlight.
